That is one long coment!!! I do agree with some part of what you said like how she instantly wanted to marry him after hearing that he had desire to physically harass her which was pretty weird if I got to admit. But this was a pretty good manga overall and it was really cute!! OwO

I really wanted to like this. I truly, truly did. But I can’t help but be appalled by the implications of this comic.
First: So Ana meets Yusuf for the first time. He literally implies he wanted to force himself onto her (physically), and the only thing that stopped him was the idea of going to hell. That is EXTREMELY problematic. Not harassing someone does not automatically make you a great Muslim. It means you aren’t a criminal. It means you’re a normal human. It shouldn’t be hell that was stopping this guy. It should have been the idea that innapropriately touching someone without their consent and before marriage is just WRONG. (Allah says we cannot do that because it is wrong and a violation of the other person’s bodily rights.) The fact that he had to run his finger through a candle to stop himself from committing a crime shows he hasn’t internalized the difference between right and wrong, and that’s terrifying.
Second: If I were in Ana’s place, and this random guy I just met said he was tempted to violate me but he didn’t because hell exists, I would run in the opposite direction and never want to encounter him again. But not only does she feel fine, she decides she wants to MARRY him. Yikes!
Alright, so let’s say Yusuf wasn’t a total creep, never wanted to violate her and didn’t use that hell excuse. Even then, how can she say she wants to marry him? Her immediately jumping to marriage is a complete misrepresentation of Muslim marriages and causes non-Muslims to make fun of us. It doesn’t matter how “faithful” this boy seemed to her; they had only met once and had a small conversation. She doesn’t know ANYTHING about him. He could be a criminal or drug dealer, for all she knows. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but to be more realistic, he could have horrible hygiene. Maybe he’s judgemental. Maybe he hates the things she enjoys. Maybe he’s intolerant of different opinions. Maybe he’s awkward and they have nothing in common. There’s no way to tell in a single meeting. And at that point in the story, she didn’t even know the boy’s name!
I’m glad her parents at least pointed out how odd this was. However, they are problematic in their own way. Later in the chapter, her dad says, “I hope you won’t turn him (some random suitor) down this time.” Why? Because he wanted to quickly marry her off to someone? That’s a yikes from me. Ana’s still young, it’s not like she’s going to die tomorrow! This does not reflect Islam. It is completely unIslamic for parents to pressure their kids into marriages they don’t want. Yes, her parents never forced her, but even pressuring them is not advised.
The only thing I liked about this story was Ana giving herself time to improve and learn before diving into marriage. I appreciated that a lot. But then it was all ruined when she blindly accepted a proposal–to a guy she never saw or met. She didn’t even know his NAME. What was the point of all that “self-improvement”? What did she learn in all that time?
Then there’s the part that made me laugh so hard, I couldn’t breathe. And sadly, not in a good way. You’re saying Ana and Yusuf were engaged the entire time? Now this is getting too ridiculous. I understand you probably made her clueless for the sake of a plot twist. I think you could have come with a more realistic twist to include instead. The one you made is beyond absurd and almost promotes dangerous ideas. Blindly agreeing to a marriage to an unknown person is the opposite of what Islam teaches, and can be such a danger. I understand the concept of arranged marriages like these is to trust your parents, but this is taking the idea way too far. What if it was some guy who tried to attack her long ago, but her parents never knew about him?
Now comes the most disappointing part of the entire story. This entire time, Yusuf was “in love” with Ana. That made me spit my drink out. There was no way for him to fall in love with her. Did they ever have a conversation about their interests, their thoughts on different topics, or just anything in general? At most, they’ve had a single conversation, if you could even call it that. If someone says they fell in love with someone after a single conversation, and continued to think about them for YEARS, that’s an outright lie. What he felt for her was lust or infatuation. There’s no other way of explaining it. Was I supposed to want them to be together? I wish I could feel that way, but I can’t.
Okay, so am I being unbelievably cruel with this review? Absolutely. I can imagine this is going to make you feel awful afterward and I’m genuinely sorry for that. My intent is not to stop you from making comics; I want you to keep going and further improve yourself, and I know you have so much potential to become an amazing comic author. Your art style is BEAUTIFUL. Gorgeous. Amazing. I’m not kidding, the art was what kept me reading.
If you managed to read to this point and haven’t deleted this comment out of pure rage, then thank you. It takes guts to publish what you love and I can see that you love this story dearly. I just wish I could too.
