Attack on Titan Episode 19 噛み付く -第57回壁外調査③-
Episode Summary:
This episode left were the epic last ending left off, the Captain Levi’s explosion of the Sound grenade. After he shot the sound grenade, buying his squad some time to push ahead. Even though they are able to buy some time, the Female Titan catches up and is close to kill them. Several of the lower division squad are killed trying to kill the Female Titan. This is too much for Erin, which causes him to attempt to bite himself to evolve, being able to take down the titan. His squad try to convince him to not do this and tell him to trust the Captain. Captain Levi tells Erin to do what he thinks the right decision. The story goes through a flashback in which the team is trying to learn about Erin’s transformation ability. They place him in a very deep well and upon giving him the green smoke gun shot, he is to bit himself and initiate Titan transformation. After waiting, a while, nothing happens. The squad go and check on Erin and see that he is all bit up from him biting himself. All the squad turn against him and threaten to kill him if he moves. This utter lack of trust hurts Erin emotionally. Erin and the Captain talk about this. Later the squad finds out that Erin can only transform upon biting himself if he has a set motive for what he is trying to do. The squad bring him to their meeting room and all bite themselves to see how much it hurts to do what Erin does. They then apologies and tell him that they trust him and that he should trust them despite their previous encounter. It then goes back to the present with the Female Titan accelerating its movement. In a final show of courage and trust, Erin tells everyone that he will continue forward with the squad. After about 15 seconds, shots are fired and the Scout Corp. captures the Female Titan, showing that there was a set plan all along. The preview of the next episode shows that they are about to find out who was the human inside the Female Titan.
Episode thoughts:
All in all, this is a good episode, adding significant amounts of character development and character information to the series. It makes you respect the squad, especially the Captain, a lot more. The animations are very fast and fluid, the colors are sharp and crisp, and there are very few still animations. There are several gruesome scenes that appear when the lower division squad members are trying to attack the Female Titan. The ways in which the Female Titan kills them is somewhat disturbing, but nothing compared to some of the titan eating human scenes seen earlier in the series.
Islamic Review:
In terms of Islamic factor, there is no kissing, sexually arousing scenes, or nudity in this episode with the exception of the Female Titan. The Female Titan’s body definitely resembles a woman’s body and has the female defining traits very explicitly shown. However, I was not aroused by the Female Titan as it does not have any skin and is not really a human but a monster like thing that resembles a human. In the series, other female looking Titans exist, but not any that look as revealing and explicit as this one. So based on your thoughts, this may be ok or not ok. In terms of animes in general, this series so far is on the more Islamic side in my personal opinion. I do not have to skip scenes and worry about something bad might show up. In fact, I would not mind watching this series with my parents present.

Animations: 10/10
Voice Acting: 8/10 (this is opinionated due to me finding the voice of one of the characters very annoying, but then again her role is to be weird so…)
Plot: 8/10 (compared to other episodes there was less action. This is a more character development episode.
